Back On Track: The Sorlien Family
Lone Tree Race Park as seen from above on a race day

A Place Called Lonetree

Do you see the red barn north of the highway? It has some age, as they all well do. It’s a big red barn with a circle around it. Follow the road around back to the east and you’ll find something that’s newer. It’s an oval track that was built by the brothers – not one, but two.

There’s a track that goes in circles and a few whoop-de-dos. The faster you go, the more you’ll fly. Hold onto your shoes! Some days it is quiet, with turkeys and deer. Sometimes it is noisy with engines and cheers. The families will come from near and far. They come with a truck and a trailer or car. The kids in the back are hoping to win and can’t wait to see their racing young friends.

They bring all their gear, a bike and a helmet. Mom has brought the munchies and dad brought the tools. The kids can’t wait to spin a tire or two. The roar of the engines gets louder and louder. The flags start swinging and mom and dad couldn’t be prouder.

“The Track Behind the Barn” – Sheryl 2026

The Lonetree Creek Racepark was a dream of two brothers. Dad Lloyd and mom Geneva supported them with letting them build. “Build and they will come.” You have to have faith, and they did. All the family pitches in. Mom is the master mower at 85. If you have time, there is mower that will fit you just fine. She does a little bit of everything. You will find her on a white little 4-wheeler. Dad used to drive it. Now that Dad has passed, she drives it and gives the great grandkids rides.

Glenn is the oldest. He helps flag and fixes anything and everything that needs fixing. Sheryl does admissions, passes out trophies, and a little bit of everything. Laurie keeps the computer working and runs around helping where needed. She is our professional shopper. Eric, he does everything from fixing to whatever is needed, but he also enjoys racing as well. Christian, he’s the one on the tractor. If it has wheels, he’s on it. He’s also our PR man.

We have 4 generations helping us at the track along with a multitude of family and friends who help us out. We are blessed by a dedicated, loving group of people. It’s a lot of work, but the gratitude helps us to continue. Three of us siblings are over 60, so please give us grace. It takes a village to bring the races to life. There’s blading, picking rocks, watering the track, mowing the grass, ordering the trophies, advertising, organizing the flaggers, starting crew, ambulance crew, score tower crew, admissions crew, registration crew, food truck, maintaining the old, old tractors and water truck, sweeper. Keep the lights burning. Picking up and sorting trash. Hanging banners and taking them back down. Maintaining the website and stats. Organizing sponsors, passing out trophies, and taking pictures. Announcing the race. And fix, fix, fix.

We couldn’t do this without the dedicated support of so many people. We are always looking for family-oriented help. We are a family track. We want you to feel like you are coming home.

We do our very best, but we also aren’t perfect. We appreciate the racers, family, and friends. You make the track successful and a fun place to be. Spend the night in your camper or tent. Listen to the coyotes howl, the cows moo, and the turkeys gobble. You might even see a deer or a jackrabbit run across the track. The stars shine bright out at the track and the air is fresh. This is God’s country. He has blessed us all.
